In North Carolina, if you have a car, you are allowed to have a maximum visible light transmission of 35% through the film on all of the windows except the windshield, the windshield also has to meet the 35% standard but is limited to just the top 5 inches being tinted. If you have a truck, van, or SUV (what is considered a multi-purpose vehicle) only the front two door glass windows and the top 5 inches of the windshield have to abide by the 35% standard. The remainder of the vehicle i.e. the back door glass, quarter glasses, and your rear glass can be as dark as you’d like.
